On most asphalt shingle roofs we use aluminum or galvanized steel. On slate, cedar or historic homes we use copper, which lasts as long as the roof. We avoid pairing copper with galvanized steel or aluminum on the same detail because the two corrode each other.
My house has no chimney. Can you still help with a roof leak?
Yes. Much of our work is wall flashing, skylight flashing, vent pipe boots and valley flashing, which use the same methods as a chimney. On homes without masonry chimneys, those are where most leaks start.
